At the start of a new year, what the church needs most is not bigger programs or better plans, but a strong foundation for life. Throughout history, God’s people have learned that true spiritual renewal always begins with valuing God’s Word again. The Bible is not only a guide for faith; it is God’s living Word that leads the church back to Him.
Spiritual growth often begins with careful and thoughtful Bible study. God’s Word is true and trustworthy, and it deserves serious attention. Ezra set his heart to study, obey, and teach God’s law, and the whole community was built on the same truth. This shows us that when the church commits to regular and complete Bible reading, faith grows deeper and unity becomes real.
God’s Word is not only meant to be understood, but also to be loved. The psalmist spoke with deep affection for God’s law and thought about it all day long. When the Bible moves from the mind into the heart, reading Scripture is no longer just a duty—it becomes a way to meet God. The disciples on the road to Emmaus felt their hearts burning when Jesus explained the Scriptures to them, and they recognized the risen Christ. When Christ is the center of the Bible, hearts are drawn to Him and the church’s direction becomes clear.
True joy does not stop at receiving God’s Word; it is completed by putting it into practice. Jesus said that those who hear His words and obey them are truly blessed. The early church devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, and prayer. Their lives were built up, and the gospel spread naturally. When God’s Word is lived out, the church becomes a living witness of God’s work.
The final goal of Bible reading is not to gain knowledge, but to come to the Lord of the Word. People can know the Bible well and still refuse to come to Christ for life. What the apostle Paul desired most was to know Christ and be fully taken hold of by Him.
May this new year find the whole church united, building on God’s Word—studying it, loving it, and living it out. May Bible reading becomes our shared joy, and may the Lord of the Word fully claim His church, to the glory of God.
